September 2006
Dear Parents/Guardians/Friends:
The middle school is a place for students to “try their wings” by
experiencing a variety of subjects and skills. In addition to math,
science, social studies, and English, we offer French, Spanish, home &
careers, technology, computer, art, music, band, chorus, and enrichment
classes which have included sign language, communications, creative
writing, study skills, and TV/DVD production. We also have many
extra-curricular activities available for further exploration: chess
club, computer club, open library, student council, literary magazine,
yearbook, and art club. Students should never be without something to do
or explore during their middle school years!
We encourage parent involvement during these important years. It is
difficult because middle school students are often struggling for
independence and experience extremes in emotions - holding parents at
arms’ length one minute and wanting them close by the next! What is a
parent to do? We suggest that you get involved by staying in contact
with teachers, by checking the homework log to make sure all assignments
are complete, by attending concerts/open house/etc. You can also be
involved by membership in and support of the PTA.
Your children are very important to us and we take their development and
their education very seriously – while having fun! It’s like attending a
good show: they’ll laugh, they’ll cry – and they will grow as
individuals.
Sincerely,
George Vanderzell,
